HOW WE TEACH SCIENCE
As part of the New York Performance Consortium our students complete rigorous and authentic performance based assessment tasks (PBAT’s) that challenge all students to design their own research projects and then defend their learning to a panel of evaluators. In preparation for these research projects students collect their best work each year into a portfolio built around the following four themes or process strands:
Inquiry and Engineering: Ask questions, develop models, experiment, and construct explanations. Identify problems, iterate, and design solutions. Science and Society: Use science to understand our past, promote health and social justice, and ensure a sustainable future. Analysis: Represent data, use mathematics, and identify sources of error and bias to interpret results and draw conclusions. Communication: Use evidence and reasoning to make or evaluate claims and convey scientific thinking to others. |
